What is IPL?

Men and women who are concerned about the appearance of sun damage or dark spots on their skin might be great candidates for intense pulsed light (IPL) treatments at Refining Beauty. An IPL photofacial is a rejuvenating skin treatment for hyperpigmentation problems on the face and neck. Dr. James Leffingwell sends intense pulses of light to start the natural healing process and increase the production of collagen. Over time, you should begin to see a healthier complexion, an enhanced tone, and fewer spots. Although IPL is not an invasive process, it can be very effective and create amazing outcomes for your skin. Our Midlothian, TX team utilizes Harmony XL PRO technology from Alma Lasers to carry out IPL therapy and can offer you a skin examination to see if this solution can help you reach your skin goals.

Who is a candidate for IPL?

IPL reaches deep within the layers of your skin to correct several complexion problems (especially sun spots and brown lesions) with minimal or no recovery time. Candidates for IPL at Refining Beauty will have several concerns with their skin, including rosacea, sun damage, brown spots (hyperpigmentation), rough texture, visible pores, redness, melasma, sun and age spots, or spider veins. Dr. Leffingwell and his team will examine your skin to see if you will benefit from IPL at your initial consultation.

IPL FAQ

How much does IPL cost?
Your complexion issues are unique so your cost for a photofacial will be dependent on your individual condition. Refining Beauty offers special deals at times, and we accept a selection of payment options. At your initial consultation, our team can help estimate your cost and recommend the number of visits required to maximize your results.

How quick are the results from IPL?
Improvements can be noticed following your Harmony XL PRO IPL session, but final results are apparent around one month after a full series of treatments is completed. It is common for you to see different responses following every session. You will most likely experience an incremental improvement in blotchiness, redness, and spots (age, brown, and sun) over time.

What are the possible side effects of IPL?
It's common to notice minor side effects, such as temporary swelling, redness, blisters, crusting, or bruising. This should subside within a day or two after the procedure. The treated areas will be extra sensitive to the sun, and you should keep in mind that excessive sun exposure can impact your results. You should also wear sunscreen to protect your skin and help prevent skin issues, including redness and sun spots.

Do I need to prep for IPL?
In preparation for IPL therapy, Midlothian, TX patients are typically asked to avoid sun exposure and self-tanners for a minimum of 2 – 4 weeks before their appointment. You may be asked to stop using minocycline, tetracycline, doxycycline, or Retin-A/Renova a few days prior to each treatment and will likely need to avoid taking ibuprofen, aspirin, or other blood thinners 5 – 7 days before your appointment to help prevent developing bruises. You should also protect the treated areas with sunscreen.

Why should I get multiple IPL sessions?
We recommend getting a series of IPL treatments to produce gradual enhancements in your skin. Each session will help to diminish spots and other surface irregularities. Several sessions also allow for longer-lasting aesthetic outcomes.
